CBT Nuggets Exam-Pack 70-640: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring
$299.00 - Includes 26 Videos | Trainer: James I. Conrad (Trainer Comments) | Running Time: 16 Hours | 1.2 GB

Whether you’re an experienced database administrator getting up-to-speed on Server 2008 or a brand-new network admin learning Active Directory from the ground up, this is the series for you. James Conrad's video series: Configuring Active Directory for Windows Server 2008, includes plenty of tools to help you shine as an administrator.

James starts by giving you a nuts-and-bolts background understanding of this terrific Microsoft product, including:

* installation
* configuring Domain Name Systems (DNS)
* terminology
* basic security and maintenance

Then he shows you how to:

* manage and monitor Group Policy Objects (GPO) to support users’ accounts
*
* modify and manipulate accounts using Account Automation
* backup and recover "lost" data
* automate your system
measuresystem performance

Finally he takes you on an in-depth tour of advanced concepts that utilize:

* Server Core
* Read-Only domain controllers
* Server Manager
* Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS)

Server 2008 gives you tools unavailable in previous versions of Active Directory. For example, you can create an extranet directory for outside users that separates them from the enterprise server. And you can use Lightweight Directory Services and Active Directory Rights Management Services to protect documents from insecure distribution such as printing or forwarding email, opening, modifying, printing, or taking other actions.

In no time, you'll be an expert administering Windows Server 2008 roles and features

James Conrad's training in mapped to Microsoft MCTS exam 70-640. Passing the exam also moves you closer to two MCITP certifications: (MCITP): Enterprise Administrator and (MCITP): Server Administrator.

Here's what you'll learn in each video of the Exam-Pack 642-515 SNAA - Securing Networks with ASA Advanced:
Video 1 - "Cisco Security: Cisco Certification and Getting the Most from this Series" - With every new program, there is typically an included "Read Me First" text file. In the same sense, consider this nugget the "Watch Me First" of the series. This nugget presents the strategies you can use for getting the most from the series, changes to the Cisco certification program, and the ideal lab equipment to use for the series.

Video 2 - "Foundations: Access Lists and NAT" - Nothing better to get moving in the Cisco realm than the core configurations of Access Control Lists (ACLs) and Network Address Translation (NAT). This nugget focuses not only on reviewing the core concepts, but demonstrating the configuration of ACLs and ACL Entries (ACEs) using the ASDM. The nugget then moves to the order of operation on the ASA and how it impacts your design and configuration along with core NAT configurations.

Video 3 - "Foundations: Access Lists and NAT, Part 2" - The ACLs and NAT continue on as Jeremy focuses on configuring the various types of NAT in the ASDM: NAT 0 Exceptions, Port Forwarding, Static Policy NAT, and Dynamic Policy NAT.

Video 4 - "Controlling Traffic: Cisco Modular Policy Framework" - Of course, one of the primary goals of the Cisco ASA platform is to control network traffic. Cisco has taken this control to an entirely new level with their Modular Policy Framework (MPF) model of configuration. This nugget walks through the concepts behind MPF and demonstrates the three, core configuration items: class-maps, policy-maps, and service policies.

Video 5 - "Controlling Traffic: Cisco Modular Policy Framework, Part 2" - In this nugget, Jeremy takes the Cisco Modular Policy Framework (MPF) to an entirely new level as he walks through multiple, practical examples which culminate by walking through Layer 7 (Application Layer) firewall inspection principles and demonstrations. By time you're done here, you'll be saying, "I LOVE REGULAR EXPRESSIONS!!!" (we hope).

Video 6 - "Protocol Inspection: Advanced Protocols" - You now know that the Cisco ASA has the ability to look deeper into a packet than simple L3 and L4 data. This nugget discusses the application inspection capabilities of the ASA, focusing on using application inspection with the FTP protocol.

Video 7 - "Protocol Inspection: Advanced Protocols, Part 2" - The Application Layer inspection continues into the HTTP, Instant Messaging, ESMTP, DNS, and ICMP protocols.

Video 8 - "Routing and Switching: ASA VLAN Interaction" - Cisco ASA Firewalls have the ability to interact with switch VLANs. This opens an entire realm of firewall possibilities from filtering within your corporate network to isolating companies in an off-site hosting facility. This nugget walks through the concepts and configuration behind implementing VLANs using Cisco ASA Firewalls.

Video 9 - "Routing and Switching: Dynamic Routing Protocols" - ASA's are routers too! You'll be chanting this mantra once you've completed this nugget which is focused on the configuration of RIP, OSPF, and EIGRP on ASA Firewalls. We've also thrown in a little route redistribution just for fun.

Video 10 - "VPN Technology: IPSec and Digital Certificates" - In this nugget, Jeremy lays the foundation IPSec and certificate concepts necessary to understand the process used when building certificate-based VPN connections.

Video 11 - "VPN Technology: Configuring Site-to-Site VPNs with Digital Certificates" - Fasten your seat belts for pure Site-to-Site VPN configuration using Certificate-based authentication! In this nugget, Jeremy goes above and beyond and shows the complete setup of a Microsoft Windows 2003 Certificate Authority (CA) server, installs both CA and Identity certificates on two ASA 5510s, then builds and verifies the Site-to-Site VPN between two locations.

Video 12 - "VPN Technology: Certificate-Based Remote Access VPNs" - Now that you've seen the concept of certificate-based site-to-site VPNs, you can now apply the idea to remote access VPNs using the Cisco VPN client! This nugget is nearly all configuration based as Jeremy builds and tests the power of using certificates to authenticate remote access VPN users.

Video 13 - "VPN Technology: Advanced Remote Access VPN Features" - Whether you call it "Advanced VPN Features" or "Optional VPN Features," this nugget is full of configurations you can apply to your VPN connections. Topics covered include load balancing, split tunneling, backup ASA servers, NAT Transparency (NAT-T), reverse route injection (RRI), VPN Hairpinning, and personal firewall options.

Video 14 - "VPN Technology: ASA5505 as Easy VPN & VPN Quality of Service" - There are many situations where you may find yourself configuring an ASA5505 behind another NAT device (so the outside IP address is private). How do you establish a site-to-site VPN in this situation? That's where Cisco Easy VPN comes to the rescue! This nugget focuses on both Cisco Easy VPN and VPN Quality of Service (QoS).

Video 15 - "SSL VPNs: Understanding SSL / WebVPN Technology" - SSL VPNs (or WebVPNs) represent an exciting new development in remote access VPN technology. This nugget is dedicated to describing exactly what this exciting new development means to you along with the three different types of SSL VPNs supported by Cisco: Clientless, Thin Client, and Full Network Access using SVC or Anyconnect.

Video 16 - "SSL VPNs: Configuring Clientless VPNs" - In this nugget, Jeremy lives in the live ASDM interface as you are taken through the configuration and demonstration of virtually every option behind Clientless and Thin Client SSL VPN connections.

Video 17 - "SSL VPNs: Configuring Anyconnect VPNs" - Cisco Anyconnect dominates completely any other vendor's SSL VPN client. At least, that is Jeremy's unbiased opinion. In this nugget, Jeremy builds upon the previous Clientless SSL VPN by adding the Anyconnect client capability.

Video 18 - "SSL VPNs: Configuring Anyconnect VPNs, Part 2" - The Cisco Anyconnect demonstrations continue. This nugget explores the Anyconnect configuration with using client and server certificates generated by the local CA of the Cisco ASA.

Video 19 - "SSL VPNs: Understanding and Installing Cisco Secure Desktop" - In order to provide Cisco administrators some control of the "anytime, anywhere" freedom provided by SSL VPNs, Cisco has created the Cisco Secure Desktop (CSD). In this nugget, Jeremy explains the concepts and installation procedure of CSD.

Video 20 - "SSL VPNs: Configuring Cisco Secure Desktop" - Feel the TRUE POWER of CSD. This nugget is dedicated to the complete configuration and demonstration of nearly every CSD feature. By time you're done here, you'll be running to implement CSD for your network.

Video 21 - "SSMs: Understanding AIP-SSM and CSC-SSM" - In addition to the plethora of core functionality offered by the ASA, Cisco also offers "add on modules" known as Security Service Modules (SSMs). This nugget covers the different SSMs (4GE-SSM, SSM-10, SSM-20) along with the two implementations: CSC-SSM and AIP-SSM.

Exam-Pack 70-238 Deploying Messaging Solutions with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007

Exam-Pack 70-238 Deploying Messaging Solutions with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007
6 Hours | English | XVID 552x416 5fps (4:3) @17Kbps | MP3 352Kbps 22Khz | 1.24Gb
Genre: eLearning

Trainer: J. Peter Bruzzese
Want to manage your Exchange 2007 organization from the ground up? This training offers you the details on how to make it happen.

Peter Bruzzese covers the transition from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007, including the period when both systems are running. He tells you exactly what to do as you move things over to your new structure, and then, how to operate this great messaging server day-in and day-out.

Transport Rules. Peter focuses heavily on one of Exchange 2007's coolest features: Transport Rules. Because all messaging goes through the Hub Transport servers, Transport Rules allow you to apply rules to messages in transit.

PowerShell. The PowerShell command-line interface is another great feature of Exchange 2007 and is prominently featured on the certification exam. Peter's training transforms you into a PowerShell expert.

Throughout this series, Peter also highlights how Exchange interacts with other servers and services, such as ISA Server, MOM, ForeFront and more. He covers the real issues you'll face as you deploy your Exchange 2007 installation, whether from a previous version of Exchange or another messaging system.

Every IT administrator looking to deploy Exchange in their real-world environment will benefit from this video series. Peter's training prepares you for Microsoft's 70-238 exam, while giving you the skills you need to deploy Exchange in your own real-world environment.

Passing this exam tells employers that you've got the ultimate level of knowledge in Exchange 2007 deployment.

The Certified Wireless Networking Expert (CWNE) Certification is
the cream of the crop for wireless certifications. It builds on
the CWNA and CWSP certifications to teach how wireless works on
a very granular level — critical knowledge for serious wireless
network admins.

In the CWNE Certification Package, instructor Michael Shannon
takes you through wireless LAN analysis, and teaches you all
about the IEEE 802.11 standards, MAC Fundamentals, frame format,
protocol analyzers, and more.

This is the knowledge it takes to be able to call yourself a
true wireless expert — and to be able to work on wireless
networks of all sizes, including large networks with multiple
access points.

CBT Nuggets - VMware Infrastructure 3.5 VCP Certification Series

CBT Nuggets - VMware Infrastructure 3.5 VCP Certification Series

CBT Nuggets - VMware Infrastructure 3.5 VCP Certification Series DVD-iNKiSO | 728Mb

Discover a new world of possibility with VMware Workstation 3.5.

Virtualization opens up many new possibilities for IT pros. With VMware Workstation you can run multiple virtual computers on a single computer. Each can have its own unique operating system and hardware profile.

This lets you try out Linux without building a new computer. Test new client-server environments before deploying them. Run test environments without fear of crashing your main OS. And that's just the beginning.

Become a virtualization pro with ESX Server and VMware Infrastructure 3.5.

With ESX Server and VMware Infrastructure 3.5, you'll have even more power and flexibility at your fingertips.

Here's just a taste. Imagine your ideal infrastructure, including the number of servers and their functions -- even the ideal network traffic flow. You can design that in VMware Server. Then give it as much hardware horsepower as your budget allows. The more hardware you give it, the better performance you'll get. Plus it's expandable later when you need more performance.

You could even run an entire virtual network or IT datacenter that exists completely within VMware. This maximizes your ability to use hardware to its full capacity.

Step by step on the job skills plus exam prep.

CBT Nuggets instructor Greg Shields walks you through VMware Workstation, ESX Server, and VMware Infrastructure 3.5. He shows you what you need to know to deploy and manage these on the job. He even throws in some "gotcha's" from his own experience where things work differently than you'd expect, or where you need to pay extra attention.

VMware’s new Guided Consolidation tool for Infrastructure 3.5 takes most of the guesswork out of the P2V process. As an administrator you'll have a higher level of confidence about virtualization candidacy.

Another big feature new with Infrastructure 3.5 is VMware’s Update Manager. It eases the process of identifying patch baselines and deploying patches to ESX systems and residing virtual machines.

This series stands alone as an on-the-job reference for using VMware -- but that's just the beginning.

If you'd like to become a VMware Certified Professional (VCP), this series can help you prepare for the exam. We mapped the content to exam objectives so what you learn in the videos is what you'll see on the test.

To get certified, you'll also have to attend a course hosted by VMware -- this series supplements that course by helping you become familiar with VMware before taking the course. Plus, after you've taken the course, you can use this series to brush up on your skills and knowledge before taking the certification exam.

Prerequisites

A basic understanding of the Windows Server environment, such as MCSA Certification on Server 2003 or equivalent knowledge is recommended before viewing this training. For certification, there are additional prerequisites available on the VMware website.

Here's what you'll learn in each video of the VMware series:

Video 1 - "Introduction to Virtualization and VMware" - Welcome to the VMware Certification Package. Understand how the series is structured and how we'll cover the technology--we start with VMware Workstation, move through ESX, and finish up with Virtual Infrastructure
3. We also look at what prerequisite knowledge helps with this series, and what hardware will allow you to mimic the demos we'll go through during the videos.

Video 2 - "Using VMware Workstation" - Before we can begin talking about the enterprise ESX product, we'll spend a few videos talking about the core features and functionalities of VMware Workstation. VMware Workstation is your desktop link to virtualization, and it's the tool in which we'll be building our ESX and VirtualCenter infrastructure for the future nuggets. Here, we talk about the use of VMware Workstation and how to navigate through the interface.

Video 3 - "Deploying, Manipulating, and Converting Virtual Machines" - Once we understand the VMware Workstation interface, we need to understand how to deploy and manipulate Virtual Machines (VM's) as well as how to convert machines from other formats. In addition, we'll learn how to migrate physical machines to virtual ones using the VMware Workstation interface.

Video 4 - "Cloning and Teaming" - Cloning and Teaming in Workstation are essential skills, because we'll be using the concepts we learn here when we move to ESX. This nugget discusses the process of cloning and teaming as well as the gotcha's you need to know to do it best.

Video 5 - "VMware Virtual Infrastructure Components and Installing ESX" - This is our first nugget that touches on ESX. Here, we take what we've learned with Workstation and apply it to an installation of VMware ESX inside our Workstation environment. Once installed, we take a tour of the interface and discuss some of the features you'll need to know to administer the environment.

Video 6 - "Networking & Virtual Switches" - Networking is one of virtualization's "core four," and in this nugget we talk in detail about how to set up, configure, and manage network connections using physical network cards and their connection to virtual switches. We talk about some of the security options associated with networking as well as how to manage the virtual switch infrastructure using best practices.

Video 7 - "Connecting to Fibre Channel Storage" - Making a mock-up of Fibre Channel storage outside a full data center environment is costly and difficult. So in this, the first of a three-part series on VMware and storage, we look at a fully-deployed environment that has fibre channel storage implemented. We take a look at how to connect fibre channel host bus adapters (HBA's) to fibre channel storage, multipathing, and other FC SAN topics.

Video 8 - "Connecting to iSCSI Storage" - iSCSI storage is relatively easy to mock up and demonstrate in our environment. So, in this nugget we use an open source tool called "OpenFiler" to create a storage volume, an iSCSI connection to that storage volume, and then connect our ESX infrastructure to that storage. This nugget will help you understand the processes needed to configure iSCSI storage, plus you'll learn some hot spots to watch for problems.

Video 9 - "Connecting to NFS Storage" - Once we've installed our OpenFiler instance, which is based on a Linux operating system, that O/S gives us a very easy way to create an NFS storage connection to our ESX environment. In this nugget we discuss the steps for creating an NFS mount point as well as how to connect ESX to that mount point. We also discuss how NFS and other low-performing storage is an excellent choice for ISO files and other non-VM shared storage.

Video 10 - "Installing & Licensing VirtualCenter" - Once we've got all four of the "core four" set up and operational--memory, processor, NIC, and disk--we are ready to connect our ESX servers to a VirtualCenter instance for centralized management. This nugget explains the process of building a VirtualCenter server. We also talk about the VMware licensing console and how to license both ESX and VirtualCenter.

Video 11 - "The VirtualCenter Interface" - Once VirtualCenter server is installed, this nugget takes the time to look at the Virtual Infrastructure Client interface used to manage it. Here, you'll get an idea of the differences between the VIC when connected directly to an ESX server compared to when it is connected to a VirtualCenter.

Video 12 - "Deploying Virtual Machines" - Once VirtualCenter is installed and we have our data stores connected, we then need to deploy Virtual Machines (VMs). In this nugget we'll talk about the various ways that VMs can be deployed through VirtualCenter. We'll also show the use of the VMware Converter tool that enables P2V--Physical to Virtual migrations.

Video 13 - "VMotion & Cold Migrations" - VMotion! VMotion is why everyone buys ESX, right? In this nugget we'll discuss what's good and what's challenging about VMotion and migrating systems across platforms. We'll talk about how it works and when it works. We'll also talk about the problems you can see with making it work between disparate platforms and how to remedy those problems.

Video 14 - "Resource and Performance Management" - Managing your Virtual Infrastructure well includes understanding the performance of the servers it runs on. And true performance management skills don't come naturally--these are skills you need to build. So, in this nugget we go back to the basics in terms of performance management, and talk about how performance management tools within the Virtual Infrastructure Collector (VIC) can help you become better at understanding how performance impacts your environment.

Video 15 - "Clusters, Resource Pools, DRS, & HA" - These four concepts are really what takes ESX and VMotion to the next level. In this nugget, we talk about clusters which are aggregations of resources, resource pools which are sub-aggregations to be parceled out to groups and users. We also talk about VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) and VMware High Availability (HA), which are the load-balancing and high availability tools that take VMotion and add in some complicated mathematics to calculate load across multiple hosts.

Video 16 - "Administering User Permissions" - Moving into the operational aspects of your Virtual Infrastructure, we talk in this nugget about how to properly administer and delegate user permissions. We talk about the use of roles and how to enable roles to grant and deny Active Directory groups the ability to manipulate the VMware environment.

Video 17 - "Administering Web Access" - Administering a VMware Virtual Infrastructure really means playing around a lot in the Virtual Infrastructure Client. But sometimes you don't have the client or you don't want to give that client to non-IT users. In those cases, pointing users to the web access console gives them just the access they need without granting them "keys to the kingdom." This nugget discusses the web console in depth, how to use it and how to create console URL's so your users can have minimal access to their server consoles.

Video 18 - "Virtual Machine Backup, Restore, and Disaster Recovery" - Backup and restore are critical topics, and adding virtualization to your network environment only complicates them due to all the new options made available. In this nugget, we'll whiteboard six different possibilities for backup and restore, both image-based backup/restore as well as file-based. We then take what we've learned in terms of backup and restore and apply it to disaster recovery options, discussing some ways (both expensive and inexpensive) that virtualization enables easier system recovery and restoration.

Video 19 - "Service Console and Service Console Commands" - VMware is built on Linux--and you can't be an ESX power user without at least some knowledge and experience with the Linux operating system. In this nugget we discuss the basics of Linux command-line administration. Also, we'll learn some ESX-specific command line options that can run from scripts or via an SSH connection--these make administering your Virtual Infrastructure easier.

Video 20 - "Troubleshooting, Logs, Review, & Wrap-Up" - Wrapping up our discussion on VMware Virtual Infrastructure, this nugget talks about troubleshooting and ESX's log files. Learn how to view log files for troubleshooting, both in the VIC and within an SSH session. Also, learn how to bundle up the log files and ship them to VMware support when you really need some outside help. Then we conclude with a few best practices to remember, and final thoughts on the series and where you can go from here.

Video 21 - "Installing Virtual Center 3.5 and Understanding Exam Updates" - This is your introduction to 3.5, including upgrading from 3.0 and new edition nomenclature. You'll get a summary of the updates and changes from 3.0, including exam updates. Plus, you'll learn how to install Virtual Server 2.5.

Video 22 - "New Technologies in Virtual Center" - In this video we'll go into detail about the new 3.5 technologies. Topics include VM-in-a-VM, NTP server connections and utilizing Datastore Browers. You'll also learn about Virtual Machine (VM) properties, changes to DRS, Distributed Power Management (DPM) and storage VMotion.

Video 23 - "ESXi & VMware Update Manager" - This video focuses on two technologies: ESX 3i and VMware Update Manager. ESX 3i is a cool implementation of Infrastructure 3.5. You'll learn how to install and fit 3i into your virtual infrastructure. VMware Update Manager provides an easy method to update VM patches and discuss updates and baselines.

Video 24 - "VMware Converter and Guided Consolidation" - In this final video, you'll learn how to wrap the P2V process into the performance management process. We'll also discuss the installation, analysis and conversion processes for Guided Consolidation. We conclude with with two essential topics: Lab Manager and Site Recovery manager.

Here's what you'll learn in each video of the MCSE on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008, Technology Specialist: Exam-Pack 70-649 Series:

Video 1 - "Series Overview" - This nugget sets the stage for the rest of the series. To that end, it is imperative that we set your expectations to ensure that you have purchased the correct Exam Pack. After you are satisfied that you will see more than adequate return on investment (ROI) with respect to your money, time, and effort, I will show you how I constructed this course. You will see how working through the nuggets in this Exam Pack in order will contribute to your exam success with a minimum of muss, fuss, or greasy aftertaste. Finally, we’ll review the "anatomy and physiology" of the 70-649 exam; after all, as your trainer I don't want you to enter the exam room with no earthly idea what to expect!

* Setting Expectations

* How this Series Works

* 70-649 Exam Strategies

Video 2 - "Configuring Active Directory Figuring Active Directory Server Roles Part 1" - In this nugget we are concerned with one of Windows Server 2008's most improved features: server roles, role services, and features. In fact, we will be working with server roles and features throughout the remainder of this tutorial series. Next we embark on a consideration of two "flavors" of Active Directory: Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS), which is the successor to Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) in Windows Server 2003; and Active Directory Rights Management Service (AD RMS). AD RMS provides an excellent way for companies to take control of their intellectual property in Web-based environment (think: SharePoint document libraries).

* Managing Server Roles and Features

* Deploying an Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (AD LDS) Server

* Deploying a Active Directory Rights Management Service (AD RMS) Server

Relevant Exam Objectives

Configuring Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (AD LDS)
Configuring Active Directory Rights Management Service (AD RMS)

Video 3 - "Configuring Active Directory Server Roles Part 1" - In this nugget we take a look at some really cool new features in Windows Server 2008. The Read Only Domain Controller (RODC), on its face, appears to be a throwback to the backup domain controllers (BDCs) that we had to deal with in Windows NT Server 4.0. However, the RODC provides much more robust functionality than you would expect from a server hosting a read-only copy of the Active Directory Domain Services database. Next, we embark on a brief tour of Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS), learning how companies can leverage this technology to provide single sign-on (SSO) for Web applications across disparate environments. Finally, we consider the Server Core installation option in Windows Server 2008. This installation method strips Windows Server of its graphical front-end and most application services, leaving with you a "lean, mean, fightin' machine" server with a dramatically reduced attack surface

* Deploying a Read-Only Domain Controller (RODC)

* Deploying an Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) Server

* Using the Server Core Installation Option

Relevant Exam Objectives

Configuring the Read-Only Domain Controller (RODC)
Configuring Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS)

Video 4 - "Managing Name Resolution Part 1" - In this nugget we begin a detailed discussion on what's new and what's changed in Windows Server 2008 host name resolution, otherwise known as DNS. We start with an overview of how to add the DNS Server role to a server, and then follow through by creating a couple forward lookup zones. We conclude with adding some resource records, including an IPv6 AAAA host record. Although the new GlobalNames zone type is introduced in this nugget, we won't see the zone in action until the next nugget. Hang on to your hats!

* Installing and Configuring Domain Name System (DNS)

* Creating and Managing DNS Zones

* Creating and Managing DNS Resource Records

Relevant Exam Objectives

Configuring a Domain Name System (DNS) Server
Configuring DNS Zones
Configuring DNS Records

Video 5 - "Managing Name Resolution Part 2" - In this nugget we conclude the discussion we began in the last nugget concerning the new GlobalNames zone in Windows Server 2008. In a nutshell, the GlobalNames zone provides a mechanism for resolving single-label names in a way similar to WINS. In this nugget we will also consider the ways we can optimize replication traffic with Active Directory-integrated DNS zones. Finally, we will "finish with a flourish" by briefly reviewing client-side TCP/IP configuration in Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista

* Deploying the GlobalNames Zone

* Designing and Implementing DNS Replication

* Configuring Name Resolution for Client Computers

Relevant Exam Objectives

Configuring DNS Replication
Configuring Name Resolution for Client Computers

Video 6 - "Implementing an Active Directory Domain Services Infrastructure Part 1" - Just because the majority of what we are learning in this nugget and the next one is largely review from what you already know from Windows Server 2003 doesn't mean that you shouldn't be paying attention! No, indeed. In this nugget we will understand the mechanics of trust relationships. For instance, what is a shortcut trust, and how is a shortcut trust relationship different from an external trust relationship? How does one create a trust relationship? We will also learn why Active Directory subnet, site, and site links are so vitally important to Active Directory replication and user logon performance. Finally, we will consider domain and forest functional levels. See what I mean? I’ll bet you 20 dollars to a stale jelly donut I already got you to thinking, "Man, I really HAVE forgotten a lot of my old Server 2003 MCSE stuff. I better study this nugget closely!"

* Building an Active Directory Forest or a Domain

* Establishing Active Directory Trust Relationships

* Creating and Managing Sites, Subnets, and Site Links

Relevant Exam Objectives

Configuring a Forest or a Domain
Configuring Trusts
Configuring Sites

Video 7 - "Implementing An Active Directory Domain Services Infrastructure Part 2" - In this nugget we continue our "haunted hayride" through the world of Active Directory replication. We spend more time with the Active Directory Sites and Services console, this time spending more time configuring site links and site link bridges. We also learn more about configuring the Global Catalog and how to enable Universal Group Membership Caching at the site level. Finally, we refresh our skills with the so-called FSMO (flexible single-master operations master) roles in Windows Server 2008. We learn what they are, the best-practice guidelines for placing them in your network infrastructure, how to determine role holders in your Active Directory forest, how to transfer role holders, and then how to seize roles.

* Managing Active Directory Replication

* Configuring the Global Catalog

* Administering Operations Master Roles

Relevant Exam Objectives

Configuring Active Directory Replication
Configuring the Global Catalog
Configuring Operations Masters

Video 8 - "Administrative File and Print Service Part 1" - In this nugget we add another server role to Windows Server 2008: the File Server role. As we will learn, the File Server role consists of a handful of role services; however, the two main ones with which we are concerned in this nugget are the File Server Resource Manager (RSRM) service and the Distributed File System (DRS) service. By the end of this nugget we hope that you will (a) be equipped to answer any file server-related item on your 70-649 exam; and (b) be inspired to implement some of these nifty new technologies in your production environment at work. We will also briefly review the Shadow Copy Service and ensure that its usage has not changed in Windows Server 2008 from how it was used in Windows Server 2003.

* Deploying a File Server

* Implementing Distributed File System (DFS)

* Configuring Shadow Copy Services

Relevant Exam Objectives

Configuring a File Server
Configuring Distributed File System (DFS)
Configuring Shadow Copy Services

Video 9 - "Administrative File And Print Services Part 2" - In this nugget, we consider the much-improved backup and restore tool that is built into Windows Server 2008. For your 70-649 exam, you need to understand not only the graphical user interface (GUI) tool, but also the command-line utility as well. Next we revisit the concept of disk quotas, reviewing the Resource Manager quotas that we introduced in the previous nugget, as well as discussing and demonstrating NTFS quotas, with which you should already be familiar from your experience with Windows Server 2003. Finally, we will learn to use the wonderful Windows Server 2008 Print Services tools. Deploying and managing print queues has never been easier; it is my goal to ensure that you not only have your bases covered with regard to your 70-649 exam, but you also walk away from this nugget with some great "real world" tips and tricks!

* Designing and Implementing a Backup and Restore Strategy

* Managing Disk Quotas

* Configuring and Monitoring Print Services

Relevant Exam Objectives

Configuring Backup and Restore
Managing Disk Quotas
Configuring and Monitoring Print Services

Video 10 - "Managing Network Access Part 1" - In this nugget, we introduce what’s new, what’s changed, and what has stayed the same with regard to remote access technologies in Windows Server 2008. We'll also cover how to install and configure the Network Policy and Access Services server role. Relevant technology buzzwords include: RRAS; VPN; dial-up; Network Access Protection (NAP); 802.3; NAT

Configuring Firewall Settings

Video 13 - "Monitoring A Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure Part 1" - You must always keep in mind that on an upgrade exam, Microsoft pays special emphasis on new technologies. To that end, because Microsoft has added quite a few new features to Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP1, you can accordingly expect to see a few items on this subject on your 70-649 exam. Similarly, the Reliability and Performance Monitor console is brand-spanking new in Windows Vista and in Windows Server 2008. In this nugget I will get you familiar with the "need to know" information with this tool. You don't need to know the in-depth configuration stuff for either WSUS or performance monitoring for your upgrade exam. Instead, just some basic WSUS architectural facts and an overview of Data Collector Sets (DCS) and the Reliability tools should suffice nicely.
